Len is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon, specialising in arthritis, sports injuries and trauma of the shoulder and elbow.
His NHS practice is based at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Trust, where he sees both GP referrals and complex referrals from other surgeons.
He is also a Professor of Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine at Salford University.
In addition to his surgical qualifications, Mr. Funk has a BSc in Sports Physiology and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering and his special interests include shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulder, arthritis, stiff elbows and sports injuries of the shoulder.
Len specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He routinely treats elite and professional athletes, particularly contact sport professionals, in particular rugby, motorsports and the combat arts.
Len lectures nationally and internationally on Shoulder Surgery, Sports Injuries and Medical Informatics at seminars and conferences worldwide. He has established and runs educational websites www.shoulderdoc.co.uk and www.orthoteers.com . The sites are of the biggest hitting medical sites in the world and are respected in the medical community as well as by the public, searching for advice regarding shoulder and elbow injury and pain.
Len has an ongoing interest in research related to Shoulder Surgery, Sports Injuries and Medical Informatics. He is published widely in medical journals and is a member of many international and national professional organizations.
