• PhysioFirst in conjunction with Len Funk, Jon Borrill and Tim Clough together with Bolton Wanderers Physiotherapists presented an evening symposium at Bolton Arena on 23rd June 2009.
• The Orthteam medical secretaries have now moved into their offices at The Alexandra Hospital and are settling in to their new surroundings.
• Phil Turner was part of a team of knee surgeons providing an education day on recent advances to trainee and consultant orthopaedic surgeons in the South West. Following on from his success in receiving funding for trainee Sports and Exercise Physicians, he is delighted to report that three excellent candidates have been appointed and will start in August.
• Matt Ravenscroft is invited faculty at The Annecy International Shoulder Arthroscopy conference
• Jon Borrill has joined the AO faculty, teaching on his first course in June/July 2009 in Leeds.
• Jon along with Phil Turner, is designing and writing the knee module syllabus for the Salford University Orthopaedic MSc course and will become an honorary Senior Lecturer at Salford University. • Jon has performed his first double bundle ACL reconstruction at the University Hospital of South Manchester. This is a new technique which has been developed in Europe and the USA, which may improve the results of ACL reconstruction.
• Orthteam sponsored a National JuJitsu Seminar held at Bolton School & Bolton Arena on 21st and 22nd March 2009
• Len Funk in association with the University of Salford is running a number of Postgraduate Degrees and Diplomas in Orthopaedics, for therapists and medics. • Mike Hayton, Phil Turner, Tim Clough and Len Funk are invited faculty at the Orthopaedic & Sports Injuries Conference to be held at the Institute of Physics in London on 26 & 27 November 2009.
• Len Funk has been appointed as Professor of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Salford.
The 2009 Sports Shoulder Conference was convened and run by Len Funk and the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit. This was an international conference with delegates and speakers from around the globe. The lectures and videos of the conference can be seen online at www.wrightington.com
